Dalquhurn

A southern district of Renton in West Dunbartonshire, Dalquhurn was developed from a former estate by the Cordale Housing Association from 2010 to provide 129 rental and shared-ownership houses and flats. The lands of Dalquhurn were owned by the Smolletts and author Tobias Smollett was born here in 1721. Dalquhurn Bleachworks opened in 1715 and the estate became the property of the Stirling family in 1791The Stirlings had made their money in Glasgow through the import of tobacco. Dalquhurn Point lies to the east and represents land enclosed by a meander of the River Leven. The farm of Upper Dalquhurn is located a half-mile (1 km) to the northwest.
