Gordonbush Wind Farm

A sizeable wind farm located 8 miles (13 km) north northwest of Brora in E Sutherland, Gordonbush Wind Farm comprises 35 turbines situated on the southwestern slopes of Cnoc a' Chrubaich Mhoir, part of the Gordonbush Estate. Gordonbush was built 6 miles (10 km) northeast of the existing Kilbraur Wind Farm. Construction began in 2010 and the farm was commissioned in June 2012. Each Senvion / REpower turbine produce 2.05 MW of electricity, giving the site a total peak generation capacity of 71.75 MW. The turbines stand 69m (226 feet) in height, with a blade diameter of 82m (269 feet), giving a total height to blade tip of 110m (361 feet) for each unit. More than 13½ miles (22 km) of new access road were also built, together with upgrading 7½ miles (12 km) of existing road. The work cost more than 100 million and was undertaken by Dingwall-based contractor R.J. McLeod Ltd.

The site is owned and operated by the Perth-based utility company Scottish and Southern Energy plc. A community benefit fund will distribute 144,000 each year to local projects, a sum which will rise in line with inflation over the life of the wind farm.
