Cairn Hill of the Moil

A summit surrounded by the Arecleoch Forest in South Ayrshire, Cairn Hill of the Moil rises to 291m (954 feet) close to the border with Dumfries and Galloway, 5½ miles (9 km) southeast of Ballantrae and a similar distance southwest of Barrhill. An ancient peat-covered cairn is located on the summit, which extends to 14m (46 feet) in diameter. It has been damaged over the years and there is no evidence of any internal structure. All but the cairn itself was once forested, but much of the hill has now been cleared to form the southernmost section of the Arecleoch Wind Farm.
