Luggiebank Wood Nature Reserve

A woodland on the southern margin of Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire, Luggiebank Wood is centred immediately to the north of Blairlinn Industrial Estate, a mile (1.5 km) south of the town centre. Following the course of the Luggie Water for almost 1¼ miles (2 km) between the A73 road and Tannochbrae, it provides a pleasant riverside walk and is noted for its kingfishers and dippers. Birch and alder cover has allowed a rich and diverse ground flora to develop where wildflowers flourish. Luggiebank Wood is part of the Cumbernauld Living Landscapes project, which aims to enhance, restore and reconnect green areas of the town in partnership with the community and led by the Scottish Wildlife Trust (which manages the reserve), North Lanarkshire Council and Forestry and Land Scotland.
