A private housing development which forms a suburb of Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, Balloch lies a miles (1.8 km) west of Cumbernauld town centre, on the opposite side of the M80 motorway. The area began as Balloch Farm but the land here was developed as Eastfield, which took its name from Eastfield Holdings that had spread west from the original settlement of Eastfield. Thus, Balloch developed to the east, towards that original settlement. Given the confusion of this conjunction, the entire area is now often referred to as Balloch-Eastfield.
