Wood Hill

An elongated hillock in The Machars of Dumfries and Galloway, Wood Hill reaches a height of 69m (226 feet) on the right bank of the River Bladnoch, 2 miles (3 km) north northeast of Kirkcowan. This is one of a number of drumlins in this area, with its principal axis aligned N-S indicating the direction of ice flow. A mixed woodland descends to the west, while Shennanton Farm lies on its southern slopes. There are other hillocks nearby named Wood Hill, which are also drumlins, the closest 3 miles (5 km) to the south southwest and 5½ miles (9 km) to the south southeast.
