Long Hill

A notably elongated whaleback in The Machars of Galloway, Long Hill rises to just 45m (147 feet) between Barquhill and Crows, 5 miles (8 km) west of Wigtown. This modest summit is a drumlin, with its principal axis aligned NNE-SSW indicating the direction of flow of an ancient ice sheet that once covered this area. There are other Long Hills nearby; 6 miles (10 km) to the northwest, 7 miles (11 km) to the northwest and 7½ miles (12 km) to the west northwest.
