Challoch Hill

An elongated hogback in The Machars of Galloway, Challoch Hill rises to 92m (301 feet) on the western shore of Elrig Loch, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) west of Loch Head. This is part of an extensive drumlin field and is aligned NNE-SSW suggesting the direction of ice flow. A forest plantation occupies the area immediately to the west. There is another Challoch Hill near Whithorn, 8½ miles (14 km) to the southeast, together with Big Challoch Hill and Little Challoch Hill 5½ miles (9 km) to the north.
