Kiln Hill

A well-defined teardrop-shaped drumlin in The Machars of Dumfries and Galloway, Kiln Hill rises to just beyond 105m (344 feet) overlooking the Black Burn a quarter-mile (0.4 km) north of Barfad Loch and 3¾ miles (6 km) north of Kirkcowan. This is part of an extensive drumlin field, deposited beneath an ancient ice sheet which once covered this area. Its principal axis is aligned NE-SW suggesting the direction of ice flow. There are several other summits named Kiln Hill hereabouts, the nearest 5½ miles (9 km) to the southeast.
