An elongated hogback in The Machars of Galloway, Long Hill rises to approximately 120m (393 feet) on the edge of plantation forest, ¾ mile (1.3 km) northwest of Barskeoch Fell and 1¼ miles (2 km) southeast of Loch Heron. This is one of an extensive field of drumlins, with its principal axis aligned NNE-SSW indicating the direction of ice flow of an ancient glacier. There are other drumlins called Long Hill hereabouts, the nearest being just 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the southwest and 4 miles (6.5 km) to the southwest.
