Prestonfield

A district of Edinburgh, lying 2 miles (3 km) southeast of the city centre, which was built in the 20th Century on part of the estate of Prestonfield House. The area lies to the east of Newington and to the west of Craigmillar and Duddingston, from which it is separated by Prestonfield Golf Course. To the south of the district, between Prestonfield Avenue and Peffermill Road, is an inter-war public housing estate (1928-30), much of which is now in private hands following the right-to-buy legislation of the 1980s. To the north of the area are predominantly private bungalows completed in the 1930s. Interrupted by the war, the private housing was completed in the 1950s. A number of small blocks, intended for disabled residents, were constructed later between the public-housing blocks, but these too have passed into private hands through the right-to-buy.
