Common Haugh

An area of flat-lying land on the left bank of the River Teviot in Hawick (Scottish Borders), Common Haugh is now largely occupied by a car park which is the site of a Saturday market and fair in the summer associated with the Common Riding week. The area is erroneously referred to as Upper Common Haugh perhaps to distinguish it from the Under Haugh, to the northeast, which was occupied by mills in the later 19th C.
