Clermiston

A pleasant public housing estate in W Edinburgh, Clermiston lies between Drum Brae and Corstorphine Hill, centred a mile (1.5 km) north of Corstorphine and a similar distance southeast of Barnton. Developed 1952-61 and occupying the farms and estate of Clermiston House, the district was part of a scheme to alleviate overcrowding in central Edinburgh. Most of the houses are now privately-owned having been sold by the local authority through right-to-buy legislation. Clermiston House is a care home for the elderly built in Parkgrove Terrace 1966-69, replacing the original Clermiston House (1792) which was located a half-mile (0.8 km) to the southeast but is now demolished. Clermiston Primary School and Clermiston Park are also located here, while Drum Brae Park lies to the west and Corstorphine Hill Cemetery is located to the southwest.
