Chapel Hill

A summit of limited prominence in The Machars of Galloway, Chapel Hill rises to just beyond 70m (229 feet) in a loop in the Tarf Water, 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Kirkcowan. This is a drumlin, one of many hereabouts, with its principal axis aligned NNE-SSW suggesting the direction of flow of an ancient ice sheet which once covered the area. There are several other drumlins named Chapel Hill in the area, the nearest being 9½ miles (15 km) to the southeast.
