Drumwhillan

A prominent drumlin in The Machars of Dumfries and Galloway, Drumwhillan rises to 103m (337 feet) overlooking the Tarf Water a half-mile (0.8 km) to the north, 2 miles (3 km) west of Kirkcowan. This is a fine example of a drumlin, one of a number of drumlins hereabouts, with its principal axis aligned NE-SW suggesting the direction of flow of an ancient ice sheet which covered this area. Confusingly, there is another Drumwhillan Hill, which is also a drumlin, 4½ miles (7 km) to the west.
