Auchness Hill

A little summit in The Machars of Galloway, Auchness Hill rises to just beyond 50m (164 feet) 1½ miles (2.5 km) south southeast of Kirkcowan. An unclassified road cuts across its southern slopes. This hillock is an example of a drumlin, one of a number of in this area, deposited under an ancient glacier and aligned N-S suggesting the direction of ice flow. There is another Auchness Hill just a mile (1.9 km) to the east, and yet another 11 miles (18 km) to the south southeast.
