Dunblane Bridge

A much-altered road bridge which crosses the Allan Water in Dunblane, connecting Stirling Road with the High Street. Fragments of the original bridge, which was built by Bishop Finlay Dermoch in 1409, can be seen within the existing structure when viewed from the north. This had been rebuilt as a wider round-arched red masonry structure in 1849, while a girder bridge with pavements was laid over the older construction in 1927. This remains in use today, although traffic crosses in one direction only, from east to west.
