Glen of the Bar

A tiny valley in W Central Dumfries and Galloway, the Glen of the Bar conveys a small stream from the southern slopes of Talnotry Hill into the Palnure Burn, 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Craigdews. A car park overlooks the glen from the north. A small diorite intrusion here was injected into the Silurian greywacke sediments around 400 million years ago and associated mineralisation contains rare elements such as platinum, gold, silver, rhodium and iridium, along with nickel, arsenic and copper.
