Clarkston Railway Station

A busy commuter railway station on a branch of the Glasgow South Western Line which extends to East Kilbride, Clarkston (referred to in Gaelic as Baile a' Chlèirich) is located in the town centre and a quarter-mile (0.5 km) north northeast of Sheddens in East Renfrewshire. Opened on the former Busby Railway in 1866, this station lies in a cutting and comprises two platforms, connected by a pedestrian overbridge, on a double-track line. Now operated by ScotRail, Clarkston Railway Station is staffed part-time and is used by 504,550 passengers per annum (2009-10). It is preceded by Giffnock Railway Station, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the north northwest, and followed by Busby, a mile (1.5 km) to the southeast.
