Coatbridge Sunnyside Railway Station

(Drochaid a' Chòta Taobh Grianach)

The busiest of Coatbridge's six railway stations, Coatbridge Sunnyside (referred to in Gaelic as Drochaid a' Chòta Taobh Grianach) lies on the North Clyde Line, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) north northeast of the town centre and a half-mile (1 km) east southeast of Gartsherrie in North Lanarkshire. This station was opened by the North British Railway Company in 1863. It comprises two platforms, with a brick-built station building on the Glasgow-bound platform but with just a utilitarian shelter in the opposite platform. There was a goods yard to the south but this has been redeveloped as a 120-space car park.

Operated by ScotRail, Coatbridge Sunnyside is staffed part-time and was used by an estimated 714,436 passengers in 2016-17, a remarkable increase from 497,220 (2009-10). It is preceded by Coatdyke Railway Station, a mile (1.5 km) to the east southeast, and followed by Blairhill, a half-mile (1 km) to the west.
