Pollokshields West Railway Station


(Pollokshields an Iar)

A suburban halt which represents the first station on the western arm of the Cathcart Circle Line, after Glasgow Central, Pollokshields West Railway Station (known in Gaelic as Pollokshields an Iar) is located a quarter-mile (0.5 km) southeast of Pollokshields and a similar distance north of Strathbungo in Glasgow City. It opened in 1894 on the Cathcart District Railway and comprises an island platform with a modern utilitarian passenger shelter. Now operated by ScotRail, Pollokshields West Railway Station is unstaffed. Passenger numbers have grown from 161,286 (2009-10) to 198,346 (2016-17). It is followed by Maxwell Park Railway Station, a half-mile (1 km) to the west.
