An unstaffed suburban railway halt in West Dunbartonshire, close to the boundary with Glasgow City, Yoker (Gael: An Eochair) serves both the Argyle Line and the North Clyde Line, between Whitecrook and Yoker, 5 miles (8 km) west northwest of the centre of Glasgow. Operated by ScotRail, Yoker Railway Station is used by more than 160,000 passengers per annum (2015). This station opened in 1882 on the Glasgow, Yoker & Clydebank Railway and comprises two platforms. It is preceded by Garscadden Railway Station, a mile (1.5 km) to the east southeast, and followed by Clydebank, a similar distance to the northwest. Yoker Depot, lying a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the southeast, provides train cleaning and maintenance services, while the nearby Yoker Integrated Electronic Control Centre (IECC) controls the rail network in the west of Glasgow, to the north of the River Clyde. This control centre was commissioned in 1989 and replaced a number of individual mechanical signal boxes.
