Townhead

A peripheral neighbourhood of Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, Townhead lies next to Drumpellier Country Park, 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of the town centre. Most of the area was developed as public housing on hilltop farmland in the years following the Second World War, comprising a mix of semi-detached and terraced two-storey houses, although the first houses - initially public housing and then private bungalows along Townhead Road - came in the 1930s. The vast majority of the public housing has been sold off through the right-to-buy legislation from the 1980s. Facilities include Townhead and St Bartholomew's primary schools, St. Ambrose High School and Buchanan High School, for children with special needs. There is also a community centre and two churches.
