Waverley

A small district of Bonnyrigg in Midlothian, Waverley lies a quarter-mile (0.4 km) east northeast of the crossroads which forms the centre of the town. Built as public housing in the 1950s, the properties comprise semi-detached houses and three-storey flatted blocks, with sizeable gardens and areas of communal greenspace. A district heating scheme was installed from the outset, one of the first in Scotland. The scheme was renewed and upgraded to a combined-heat-and-power system in 2003 at the cost of £2 million. It continues to provide 215 houses and flats with heating and hot water through 2½ miles / 4 km of underground heating mains. The majority of properties have been sold to their tenants under right-to-buy legislation. The streets are named Waverley Road, Waverley Crescent, Waverley Drive and Waverley Park. An area of parkland, also called Waverley Park, lies to the northeast.
