Midlothian Community Hospital

Midlothian Community Hospital is located next to the Eskbank Road Roundabout on the outskirts of Bonnyrigg, a half-mile (1 km) northeast of the town centre, and a similar distance southwest of Eskbank. The 88 inpatient beds are provided for the care of the frail elderly, including those with mental health issues. Outpatient services include x-ray, child services, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, together with an out-of-hours general practitioner service. There are no accident and emergency facilities.

Built under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI), construction of the £18-million hospital began in 2009 and it was fully operational from September 2010. Midlothian Community Hospital was officially opened on the 26th September 2011 by Health Secretary and Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon (b.1970). It replaced the former Rosslynlee Psychiatric and Loanhead Geriatric hospitals.
