Located next to the Birnam Arts & Conference Centre, 12 miles (19 km) north of Perth in North-Central Perthshire, the Beatrix Potter Garden honours the connection between Strath Tay and author and illustrator Beatrix Potter (1866 -1943). As well as being a famous children's author and illustrator, Potter was an accomplished naturalist with a particular interest in fungi.
The Garden therefore not only features flowers and characters linked to Potter's relationship with this area, but also fungi, while the Conference Centre (Birnam Institute) hosts a Beatrix Potter Exhibition explaining how she spent her summers at nearby Dalguise House. Potter's characters are recreated as bronze sculptures set amongst the landscaped gardens. Footpaths lead past the houses of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, the hedgehog, and Mr Tod, the fox, then continue alongside the stream and pond which is home to the toad, Mr Jeremy Fisher, and on to Peter Rabbit's burrow.
