Sgurr Mhic Choinnich

Sgurr Mhic Choinnich is located on the Cuillin Ridge on the Isle of Skye, within Highland Council Area. It lies immediately to the north northeast of Sgurr Alasdair, the highest of the Black Cuillin. The summit at 948m (3110 feet) is one of the most challenging of the Cuillins, with most routes to the top requiring scrambling or rock-climbing. Meaning "Mackenzie's Peak" in Gaelic, the mountain is named in honour of John Mackenzie (1856 - 1933), a local mountain guide and one of the earliest explorers of the Cuillin who was the first to climb this mountain in 1887.
