Blaven


(Bla Bheinn, Blà Bheinn, Blàbheinn)

A prominent mountain on the eastern edge of the Black Cuillin on the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides, Blaven, (Gael: Bla Bheinn or Blàbheinn) rises to a height of 929m (3048 feet) at the head of Loch Slapin, 6 miles (10 km) west of Broadford. Its summit is marked by an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar, but there is a subsidiary summit located 250m (820 feet) to the southwest which rises to 926m (3038 feet).The Strathaird peninsula extends to the south and Blaven was part of the Strathaird Estate owned by Jethro Tull musician Ian Anderson, which was sold to the John Muir Trust in 1994. The greater part of the peak comprises dark-coloured gabbro rock. It is classified as a Munro.
