New Bridge, Garrionbridge

Two bridges over the River Clyde at the hamlet of Garrion Bridge which link the A72 trunk road to the A71. The original (to the north) was built in 1817 and construction began on the new bridge (to the south) in 2001. Both bridges remain in use, the older bridge carrying traffic east into North Lanarkshire and the newer taking traffic west into South Lanarkshire.

The new single-span bridge opened on 31st January, 2002. It was built at the cost of £6.5 million to relieve congestion in the area, which is popular with tourists as well as a commuter route north to Hamilton, Wishaw and Glasgow.
