Rhu-Vaal or Rudha Mhail, a headland at the northern extremity of Islay island, Argyllshire, flanking the W side of the northern entrance to the Sound of Islay, 7 miles N by W of Port Askaig. A lighthouse, erected on it in 1859 at a cost of £7437, shows a fixed red light in a westerly direction, between the bearings of about SSW ½ W and about E by S, and a white light in every other direction, both visible at the distance of 17 nautical miles.
