Rhinns (Gael. roinn, 'a point or promontory'), a peninsula in the SW of Islay island, Argyllshire, extending between the German Ocean and Loch Indal, communicating with the main body of the island by an isthmus, between the head of Loch Gruinnard and the upper part of Loch Indal, and terminating in a headland called Rhinns Point. Its length, south-westward, is 17 miles; and its greatest breadth is 7 miles. Its terminating point is not a headland proper, but the islet Orsay.
