Cairnie is a parish, which lies in Aberdeenshire Council Area, some 4 miles (7 km) northwest of Huntly in Aberdeenshire and 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Keith in Moray.
It is located in the old county of Aberdeenshire, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.
The parish has an area of 64.2 sq. km (24.7 sq. miles). Cairnie has 6 neighbouring parishes; namely Botriphnie, Glass, Grange, Huntly, Keith and Rothiemay. The boundaries of this parish were modified among significant changes recommended by the Boundary Commissioners after the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889.
