Fettercairn is a parish, which lies in Aberdeenshire Council Area, some 8 miles (13 km) north of Brechin and 11 miles (18 km) northwest of Montrose in Angus.
It is located in the old county of Kincardineshire, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.
The parish has an area of 60.2 sq. km (23.2 sq. miles). Fettercairn has 6 neighbouring parishes; namely Edzell, Fordoun, Logie Pert, Marykirk, Stracathro and Strachan. The boundaries of this parish were modified among significant changes recommended by the Boundary Commissioners after the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889.
