Parish of Crichton

Crichton is a parish, which lies in Midlothian Council Area, some 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Bonnyrigg in Midlothian and 8 miles (14 km) south of Prestonpans in East Lothian.

It is located in the old county of Midlothian, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.

The parish has an area of 22.5 sq. km (8.7 sq. miles). Crichton has 5 neighbouring parishes; namely Borthwick, Cranston, Fala & Soutra, Heriot and Humbie. The boundaries of this parish were modified among significant changes recommended by the Boundary Commissioners after the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889.
