Parish of Riccarton

Riccarton is a parish, which lies in East Ayrshire Council Area, some 2 miles (4 km) southeast of Kilmarnock and 4 miles (6 km) west of Galston in East Ayrshire.

It is located in the old county of Ayrshire, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.

The parish has an area of 31.1 sq. km (12 sq. miles). Riccarton has 7 neighbouring parishes; namely Craigie, Dundonald, Galston, Kilmarnock, Kilmaurs, Mauchline and Symington. The boundaries of this parish were modified among significant changes recommended by the Boundary Commissioners after the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889.
