Sir Walter Scott

1771 - 1832

Extended Information
A plaque on Guthrie Street in Edinburgh marks the location of the long-demolished tenement in which he was born. This had originally stood on College Wynd, a narrow street, with little natural sunlight and poor sanitation, which led to Old College (University of Edinburgh) and therefore became a popular neighbourhood for lecturers and aspiring professionals.
