William Schomberg Robert Kerr

(8th Marquess of Lothian)

1832 - 1870

Noble. Born at Newbattle Abbey (Midlothian), Kerr succeeded his father to the Marquessate of Lothian in 1841. He inherited Blickling Hall (Norfolk) in 1850. Although he married his cousin Constance, the daughter of the 18th Earl of Shrewsbury, in 1857, Kerr died childless in Clapham (Surrey) in 1870. He was succeeded by his younger brother and a studentship in Modern History at the University of Oxford is still offered in his memory.
