James Wemyss
(5th Earl of Wemyss)

1699 - 1756

Noble. At Edinburgh in 1720, Wemyss married Janet Charteris, heiress of the rake Colonel Francis Charteris (d.1732). Their children included David Wemyss, Lord Elcho (1721-87), who lost the family title having supported the Jacobites and Francis, who adopted his maternal surname and whose great-grandson, also Francis (1771 - 1853) was able to recover the family title as the 6th Earl in 1826.

Wemyss died in County Durham, England.
