George Hutcheson

1580 - 1639

Lawyer. Hutcheson was a wealthy lawyer in Glasgow's Trongate. He later lived in the old Bishop's Castle which stood near the confluence of the Rivers Kelvin and Clyde.

Along with his brother Thomas (1589 - 1641), he left a bequest to found an institution to cater for the needs of orphan boys in Glasgow. Hutchesons' Hospital was created in 1641 and it continues today as Hutchesons' Grammar School.
