Dr. Thomas (Tom) Anderson


1910 - 1991

Fiddler and composer. Born in Esha Ness (Shetland), Anderson established a reputation for promoting the distinctive Shetland fiddling style. He was also a prolific composer, writing more than 500 tunes in the traditional style.

Anderson was awarded an MBE in 1977. In 1980, he donated his large collection of vernacular recordings to the University of Stirling.

He was buried at Esha Ness.
