James Faed


1821 - 1911

Engraver. Born at Burley Mill (near Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries and Galloway), a brother of the artists John Faed (1819 - 1902) and Thomas Faed (1826 - 1900). Faed became a successful mezzotint engraver in Edinburgh and London, who produced a large number fine copper-plate engravings of the work of many of the leading artists of the day. He retired in 1898 and died in Edinburgh.
