Eddie Mair


1965 -

Broadcaster. Born in Dundee, Mair's father was a lorry-driver and mother a nurse. Fascinated by broadcasting since a school-boy, Mair began his career with the local Dundee station, Radio Tay. In 1987, he moved to Glasgow to join BBC Radio Scotland as a news editor. By 1989, Mair was presenting the BBC Scotland flagship TV and radio news programmes, Reporting Scotland and Good Morning Scotland. In 1993 he hosted the new morning programme Eddie Mair Live which won a Sony Gold Award for best breakfast show. In 1994, he helped launch the BBC station Radio 5 Live fronting Midday with Mair, which won him two Sony Award nominations. Mair regularly presents PM on Radio 4 and has hosted the Sunday morning news and current affairs programme Broadcasting House since in began in 1998. This won a Sony nomination in 2000.
