William Paterson Turnbull


1830 - 1871

American ornithologist. Born in Fala (Midlothian), Turnbull was educated at the Royal High School in Edinburgh. He emigrated for the USA, settled in Philadelphia and immersed himself in the study of birds. He is noted for his Birds of East Lothian, published in Glasgow, and Birds of East Pennsylvania and New Jersey (1869).

Turnbull died in Philadelphia.
