John Menzies Campbell

1887 - 1974

Dental historian. Born in Paisley, Menzies Campbell was educated at George Watson's College, Edinburgh, followed by St Mungo's College, the Glasgow Dental School and the completion of his dental studies in Toronto (Canada). He set up a successful dental practice at 14 Buckingham Terrace in Glasgow. Menzies Campbell developed a great interest in dental history, assembling a unique collection of books, artefacts, pictures and advertisements.

In 1964 he decided to leave this collection to be divided between the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, who received the artefacts and pictures, and the Royal College of Surgeons of England who got the books and historic dental advertisements. The Royal College in Edinburgh created the Menzies Campbell Dental Museum to display their part of the collection.
