Lulu
(Marie McDonald Lawrie)

1948 -

Pop singer, entertainer and TV personality. Lulu was born in Glasgow and had won a singing competition by the age of five. Her first hit was "Shout" (1964), with the Isley Brothers, which was released as a solo performance in 1986. By 1966 she was following a solo career and she both sang the title song and acted in the film "To Sir with Love" (1966), starring Sidney Poitier. She was joint-winner of the Eurovision Song Contest (1969) with "Boom-Bang-a-Bang", which reached No.2 in the British charts. She sang the title song for the James Bond film "The Man with the Golden Gun" (1974).

Lulu was married to Maurice Gibb (of the Bee Gees) between 1969 and 1973. Following another failed marriage, she has continued to reinvent herself, being awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List (2000) and appearing at the T in the Park music festival (2001).
