Archbishop of St Andrews. The son of the Laird of Blebo, Traill's family had strong associations with the Church. He was educated in Paris and served as a Canon in Aberdeen. By 1379, he was a church official in Glasgow and was appointed Archbishop of St. Andrews in 1385, by King Robert III (1337 - 1406). He served in this role until his death.
