Gordon Henderson Naismith Campbell


1927 - 2005

Political journalist. Born in Bellshill (North Lanarkshire), Campbell was brought up in Birmingham (England). He served in the Royal Navy during the latter stages of the Second World War but thereafter turned to a career in journalism. By the early 1950s he was a correspondent for the Scottish Daily Express and spent the next 50 years in London reporting the work of the Westminster parliament. He also served as a political reporter for Independent Radio News from 1979. Both his colleagues, and the politicians he reported on, held him in great respect. Campbell was awarded an OBE in 1973. He died in Guildford (Surrey).
