David George Ritchie1853 - 1903
Philosopher. Born in Jedburgh, a son of the manse, Ritchie was educated at the Universities of Edinburgh and Oxford. he went on to occupy the Chair of Logic and Metaphysics in St. Andrews. A disciple of Hegel, his works include Darwinism and Politics (1889), Principles of State Interference (1891) and Darwin and Hegel (1893), although he is best known for his Natural Rights (1895).
His son Arthur David Ritchie (1891 - 1967) was also a noted philosopher.
