Alexander (Alex) Hugh Norton

1950 -

Television and screen actor. Born in Glasgow, Norton began acting as a teenager and has had a successful career despite no formal training. He is perhaps best known as DCI Burke in the long-running detective series Taggart for Scottish television, Norton has also had parts in Gregory's Girl (1981), Local Hero (1982) and Comfort and Joy (1984), all directed by Bill Forsyth (b.1946), together with modest roles in Patriot Games (1992), Deacon Brodie (1997) alongside Billy Connolly (b.1942) and Russell Hunter (1925 - 2004), The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006).
