James (Jamie) Murray


1986 -

Tennis player. Born in Glasgow and brought up in Dunblane, the elder brother of tennis-star Andy Murray (b.1987). Their mother, Judy Murray (b. 1959), is a respected tennis coach and both brothers began playing at an early age. Turning professional in 2004, Murray prefers doubles and in this game he has excelled. He remained in the shadow of his brother for many years, but came to the fore when he won the Mixed Doubles title at Wimbledon in 2007, the first British Wimbledon champion for two decades. His partner was Serb Jelena Jankovic. Murray first joined the Davis Cup team in 2007 and was a member of the team won the Cup for Britain in 2015, and was jointly presented with the BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year Award later the same year. Murray continued to win doubles and mixed doubles titles; including the US Open (2016, 2017, 2017 and 2019), the Australian Open (2016) and Wimbledon (2017).

In 2010, Murray married in his brother's hotel, Cromlix House near Dunblane. He was awarded an OBE in 2016.
